CBP to Verify Importer of Record Information on Form 5106

CBP announced it is executing enhanced enforcement procedures to verify the accuracy of importer of record information provided on CBP Form 5106, and importers of record or their brokers must submit complete and accurate information by September 18 to avoid consequences. The initiative follows the June 3 executive order on customs enforcement, which directed the DHS Secretary to confirm that active importers of record are compliant with all applicable regulations. Inaccurate information may result in the voiding of the importer of record number, and CBP has indicated it will issue penalties and pursue other legal liability against importers of record and their brokers who submit false or misleading data.

Cuba Sanctions Designations

On August 20, 2026, the Department of State also added several persons and entities to the Office of Foreign Assets Control’s (“OFAC’s) Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (“SDN List”) to further target the Cuban regime, including:

• Three individuals were designated pursuant to Section 2(a)(i)(E) of E.O. 14404 for being or having been a leader, official, senior executive officer, or member of the board of directors of Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (“ICAP”), a blocked entity.

• Four entities were designated for their association with the exploitation of Cuba’s metals and mining sector for the Cuban regime’s benefit.

• Three entities were designated pursuant to Section 2(a)(i)(B) of E.O. 14404 for being owned, controlled, or directed by, or having acted or purported to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, Grupo Empresarial del Comercio Exterior (“GECOMEX”), a blocked entity.
