On May 22, 2025, the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (“BIS”) released a diverse list of 58 requests for new products to be added to the list of  derivatives subject to the Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum products. Details about the process for requesting inclusion of Section 232 derivatives were outlined in our previous post here.

This May 22, 2025, announcement marks the beginning of a two-week public comment period, during which stakeholders can submit feedback on the proposed additions. The requests cover a diverse list of steel and aluminum products ranging from forks and spoons to drones and auto parts. Comments for each product request must be submitted no later than June 4, 2025.

Following the public comment phase, BIS is required to review and issue a final determination on each of the 58 requests within 60 days, with the review period starting from May 20, 2025. This decision-making process will play a critical role in shaping the future scope of Section 232 restrictions.

The Husch Blackwell Trade team continues to monitor developments and will provide additional updates as they arise.
